Why me and what I am planning
Obviously the first order of business will be a hot tub in the courthouse!!
(Just kidding. We already had one pipe burst in there, we don't need another water disaster!)

Why vote for me for Davis County Supervisor?
I really, really, really wanna help!
The supervisors told me that often times a candidate will run just because they have a problem. They think they can get elected and change things. A one agenda candidate isn't a good option. I don't have any problems! I don't even mind my gravel road. I just want to serve my community.
The supervisors aren't really making huge, life altering decisions so I'm not going to invade their little office like gang busters trying to re-invent the wheel. I'm going to watch and learn and if I see a way to do something more efficiently, I'll suggest it. If I think it's a really good idea and it gets shot down, I'll probably suggest it twice. (Wink)
I am already a supervisor's apprentice.
I have been attending the supervisor's meetings for over a year now. I have asked questions to the guys and two different auditors all along the way about how things work and why they do what they do. Each meeting I observe and learn. No other potential supervisor candidates have been attending meetings.
Each supervisor is on about 15 different committees and boards. This year, I have already started attending those meetings as well just to get acclimated and learn for when I become supervisor.
I will listen to all issues and inquiries and respond promptly and thoroughly.
I can't promise to fix everyone's problems but I can promise to write down your name and number and try to fix your problem and if not, I will at least call you back and explain what is going on and why, and if there are any possible solutions.
That's what I want for myself out of life, so it just makes sense to do for others. Help me if you can, tell me why if you can't, and do it as quickly as possible!
I want to broadcast the meetings.
I would like to see the supervisor meetings recorded and put on YouTube just like the Bloomfield City Council meetings. Monday at 8:30 a.m. is a tough time for people to attend. It would be great if folks could still see and hear what's going on.
I want to bridge the gap between gravel road drivers and road maintainers.
It would be nice to arrange a public forum with the county engineer and the fellas who drive the motorgraders. I don't even know if that's a thing I could do, but if so, I think it would be great for both accountability and education. I've sat through enough meetings to know that sometimes the driver didn't do his best and sometimes he did exactly as he needed to but the person who is upset doesn't understand the process. I think both sides need to be humanized and heard.
I will keep you informed without asking.
I'm a writer and a documentarian by nature so I plan to document my entire experience. All the how to campaign stuff leading up to the election will be a template for those who come after me. Let my experience help the next person as I have been helped by those who came before me.
I also really like how Austin Harris, IA Representative for District 26, writes a weekly update for the newspaper while the legislature is in session. I plan to do that as well. I'll lay out all the trainings I do, things I learn, and what it's really like being a supervisor. There's more going on behind the scenes than people realize. I even plan to record statistics for things like how many calls I take per week about road complaints and reports of people letting their dogs poop in the courtyard.
I am not a politician.
I consider myself very middle of the road, while I had to choose a side, small town local office isn't about red or blue. It's just not. Local office is about being a public servant and good steward of the county's resources. The number one resource in Davis County is the people. Can I put my own opinions aside and act on behalf of the greater good of this community? Yes! I have served in other representative roles where I have voted against what I wanted because it was the will of the group I was representing.
